Rise Above The Line

This D&AD Winner brought awareness to global warming and the effect it has on the water levels around the world. We created an installation around Miami to give people a first-hand look at where the water levels will be in just twelve years.

The cause

Our team noticed that elected officials aren’t doing much proactive work. So we went to the streets to warn people ourselves. We used blue tape to show how high water levels will get by 2030. On the warning sticker, we directed traffic to our website, riseabovetheline.org.

The website

Plastering the city with warning stickers was a nice start, but not enough. So we encouraged people to learn more and write congress to demand change. We even wrote a script and created a flood line that lowers as you write congress - so you can see the change happening before your eyes.

Behind the scenes

My team and I all live(d) in Miami. After noticing the lack of concern from the government and even some local residents, we knew we had to do something. My personal role as writer was much more than dreaming of a few lines over coffee. My team and I worked for 10 weeks to think of the best way to grab attention. We chose Saturday in South Beach for stunt day (bad decision). Our operation was shut down by police, but we kept pushing until our message was up for everyone to see.

The results

We can proudly say London’s D&AD recognized our initiative and awarded us with a shinny Graphite pencil for our work. More importantly, this project got traction and people actually wrote their local officials demanding change.
